I wish I could write in another language!
Khalil Gibran once said: “between what is said and not meant and what is meant and not said, most love is lost.” As individual beings with unique perspectives, our shared narratives, if they exist, are deeply complex and elusive. This led me to revisit the fundamental questions at the heart of my work: the nature of human existence, its myriad dimensions, and the impact of modern civilization.
This project draws on prehistory relics and sculptures, whose stylistic nuances captivated me. Imagining these figures as time travellers visiting our era, I pondered their perceptions of contemporary civilization. This speculative journey inspired me to breathe new life into these figures through the medium of painting, reintroducing them as tangible entities carrying untold stories across millennia.
The project evolved as I incorporated 3D modelling and printing, bringing these historical figures into a modern context. By placing these 3D objects alongside my paintings, I aimed to create a multidimensional experience. This juxtaposition invites viewers to engage with the artworks in a more immersive way, stimulating their imaginations and curiosity.
Rather than dictating a singular narrative, I fostered an experimental exhibition atmosphere. This approach allows the audience to navigate their interpretations, bridging the gap between the ancient and the contemporary. It is a paradox: I offer more space for personal connection and meaning-making by providing less explicit storytelling.
Through this blend of painting and sculpture, I seek to evoke a dialogue about our shared humanity and the timeless narratives that bind us. In doing so, I hope to leave an open-ended invitation for viewers to explore and contemplate the intersections of past and present, tradition and innovation, and individuality and collective memory.
